Conor McGregor to sponsor the Irish squad at the 2021 IMMAF Youth MMA Championships

Conor McGregor is giving back to the sport of mixed martial arts in his home country ahead of his massive trilogy with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.
The former two-division UFC champion is sponsoring an entire Irish youth squad to participate in the 2021 International Mixed Martial Arts Federation Youth MMA Championships, which take place in Sofia, Bulgaria from July 29 to July 1. August. McGregor is paying registration fees, flights and accommodation for 27 young athletes and 20 coaches, according to a statement.
“I wish the Irish team good luck in their quest for the World Championships this year! McGregor said. “From fighters to coaches, I know the future of our fighting nation is in excellent hands. Fight with the pride of the Emerald Isle, team! We are all with you. Good luck!”
In 2019, the Irish team placed sixth at the IMMAF Youth Championships. Contestants are aged 12-18 and the event will be available to stream with details to be announced at a later date. The rules are changed from the IMMAF Amateur MMA guidelines to prohibit hitting the head for those under the age of 18.

The value of that endorsement extends beyond money in terms of focus and sense of purpose it gives the team. This is the goal of IMMAF, to work in communities to deliver MMA value for social good. “
UFC 264 takes place on July 10 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and is featured in the third bout between McGregor and Poirier. The Irish star last appeared at UFC 257 on January 23, when he suffered a second round knockout loss in a rematch with Poirier in Abu Dhabi.
