BLOUNT COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN: Will meet at 6:00 pm on Monday, September 27, in the Sharon Lawson Room, Blount County Public Library, 508 N. Cusick St., Maryville. The guest speaker will be Doug Overbey, who served as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee and the State Senate.

WORD WEAVERS KNOXVILLE: This faith-based, supportive community of local writers meets on the third Saturday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 3736 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville. BLOUNT COUNTY RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION: Meets at 11:00 am on the third Tuesday of the month at the Green Meadow Country Club in Alcoa. All local retired teachers are welcome to attend.

BLOUNT COUNTY SANCTUARY CLUB: Meet on the fourth Monday of the month at Shoney’s in Maryville. Dinner starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m.

Health and fitness

WW (WEIGHT OBSERVERS): Meetings are at 8 a.m. on Saturdays and the weigh-in is at 7:30 a.m. at Maryville Church of Christ, 611 Sherwood Drive, Maryville.

HOSPICE UT TRAINING: UT Hospice, serving patients and families in Knox and surrounding 15 counties, conducts ongoing orientation sessions for adults interested in volunteering with the program. Music, Dance

BORDERLINE BAND IN ALNWICK: The band plays country music every Friday night at the Alnwick Community Center, 2146 Big Springs Road, Maryville. Doors open at 6 p.m. and music goes from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The cost is $ 5 per person. Snack bar available.

ROCKY BRANCH BLUEGRASS, GOSPEL AND COUNTRY JAM SESSION: 6:30 p.m. Fridays at the Rocky Branch Community Club (the old Rocky Branch school). All string gatherers and listeners are welcome; no electric instruments. Refreshments provided. No alcohol or drugs allowed. Donations are appreciated to cover the operational expenses of this non-profit organization.

LUMBER ENTERPRISE MUSEUM: will organize free train days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday 24 and 25 September. A steam engine will produce homemade ice cream, a manual inspection car will be available for customers. Children will have the opportunity to ride a crank wagon and operate the G-scale garden railway. Vendors and a blacksmith will also be on hand to offer a variety of items for sale. Admission is free and donations are appreciated. The address is 7747 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Townsend.

FUN AND GAMES AT THE SENIOR EVERETT CENTER: Quizzes, Scattergories and many other games are offered from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Friday at the center, located at 702 Burchfield Street, Maryville. All activities will practice social distancing. There is no charge to participate. Call 865-983-9422 to register.
