Who was it? It was his longtime trainer – Matt Hume. Since Hume is directly involved in ONE’s operations (Vice President of Operations for ONE Championship), he’s not the usual staple in Johnson’s corner.

During his chat with MMA reporter Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Johnson talked about a variety of things, including how he’s dealing with Matt Hume’s absence from his corner.

Johnson said, “Oh, I miss him; I miss him. I miss queuing in the hallway. Having to check, you know, count 10 seconds. And then it’s, you know, rubbing my neck; And find me, my good frame of mind. But that’s part of my journey as a mixed martial artist.

Johnson revealed he had to rely on the experience and skills he had acquired over the years to fill Hume’s place. In addition, his corners / teammates help him.

“I go back to my fundamentals when I fight without Matt in my corner,” Johnson concluded.
