Keanu Reeves likes this movie of his even though only ‘8 people saw it’
Keanu Reeves movies may be some of the greatest of all time, like Speed, the matrix and Toy story 4. He also takes risks on independent films. Some of these little-seen gems are hailed as My own private Idaho and Gift. Others just seem to disappear.
Fortunately, they are all still there. If you want to see the Reeves movies that are important to him, he has a few recommendations. During a 2017 appearance on the Nerdist podcast, Reeves spoke to host Chris Hardwick about the films he hopes his fans will see again.
Keanu Reeves movies you should check out
There are still a lot of Reeves movies to check out. They are not all action-packed extravagances like John wick, romances like The lake house or intense dramas like Devil’s advocate. A 2012 indie called Generation Um… is close to Reeves’ heart.

“What lasts is really my directing experience and the movie that was made,” Reeves told Hardwick. “For me, a movie that I made called Generation Um…, I think there are eight people who have seen it but I love this movie and I love the work that is in it of myself and the other actors, the director and everyone. Songs like that, you’re like oh, I wish people would watch Generation Um… It’s a good movie. But they didn’t and that’s a drag.
Who are the characters of “Generation Um…”?
Reeves plays John Wall, a New Yorker who spends his birthday with revelers Violet (Bojana Novakovic) and Mia (Adelaide Clemens). The trio seek answers to their lives aimlessly. Reeves is at least comforted by the fact that people occasionally find out Generation Um… on streaming services like Amazon Prime.

“It’s the thing,” Reeves said. “This is one of the interesting things about digital exposure and distribution that has happened over the past eight years. Films have a different life, but they have the opportunity to be seen. So you will get this answer in the street of ‘Oh I saw Generation Um… It was weird. You’re like, ‘Yeah, cool, did you see it? Yes.'”
More Keanu Reeves movie recommendations
Reeves has listed a few more of his little-seen movies that he hopes his fans find out.
“Private life of Pippa Lee, a dark scanner, what else do we have floating around there? Said Reeves. “The Kung Fu movie that I made, Tai Chi Gentleman. Have you seen the documentary I made called Side By Side? About the transition from photochemical film to digital, that’s a good thing. “
Reeves plays a love interest in Robin Wright in Pippa lee. A dark scanner is a sci-fi movie in which Reeves and all of his teammates are animated. Reeves directed and played the villain in Tai Chi Gentleman, a martial arts extravaganza fans of The matrix and John wick should see. Side by side features Reeves interviewing filmmakers like James Cameron and Christopher Nolan on the film’s transition to digital.
