New Orleans Public Library SUMMER FUN Program Kicks Off Today
NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The New Orleans Public Library’s popular SUMMER FUN program kicks off today, with dozens of events and activities, reading challenges and the chance to win prizes. great prices.
The library’s SUMMER FUN program is held annually to combat the “summer slide,” or the tendency for students to lose some of the educational gains they made in the previous school year. Libraries across the country run summer reading programs with the goal of filling these gaps, as well as encouraging lifelong reading and increasing interest in libraries.
“SUMMER FUN is a great way for the library to inspire children and teens to keep reading, even when school is not in progress,” said CEO and City Librarian Gabriel Morley. “However, that doesn’t mean that SUMMER FUN is just for kids; we have something for everyone, including adults of all ages.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, most SUMMER FUN programs will run virtually, with the exception of a few in-person outdoor events. Programs include everything from virtual zoo tours and drag queen storytelling hours to online game sessions and manga book clubs, mushroom growing workshops and tai chi classes, and more. again.
SUMMER FUN attendees are encouraged to start following their reading as soon as possible for a chance to win prizes including creativity baskets, Beats Audio headphones, and gift cards to local businesses.
