SB: Galati ’13 to be inducted into Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame

Shoreham, NY – Hofstra University softball star Olivia Galati ’13 will be inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame, the organization announced on Monday.

The Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame has officially announced its class of 2022 and inductees will be honored in a ceremony on May 18 at East Wind in Wading River, NY. Regarding the recent rise in COVID-19, the Hall of Fame is not yet selling tickets for the event and will be monitoring the situation in the coming weeks.

The Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame Class 2022 winners include:

  • Sam Apuzzo: Originally from West Babylon, winner of the Tewaaraton Prize and All-American at Boston College where she is an assistant coach
  • Charlie Bunger, historic inductee: Babylonian surfing pioneer and legend known for Bunger Surf Shop
  • Linda Cohn: ESPN broadcaster and longtime host of Newfield High School’s SportsCenter
  • John Daly: 3x Smithtown Olympic Skeleton Races
  • Olivia Galati: Prolific softball player at St. John the Baptist and Hofstra University, where her number is retired
  • Chris Fallica: ESPN producer best known for his work on College GameDay in Westhampton Beach
  • Keri Farley: U.S. National Handball Star, Cornell Basketball Record Holder and Sachem Athletic Hall of Famer
  • Myles Jones: American lacrosse player and champion at Duke and Premier Lacrosse League star at Walt Whitman High School
  • Paul Longo: The most victorious high school football coach in Suffolk County from William Floyd High School
  • Kevin Harrington: John Glenn High School Girls ‘Volleyball Coach, one of the most successful girls’ volleyball coaches in New York State history
  • Billy Koch: Former closest to the major leagues with 163 career saves; was named American League Pitcher of the Year in 2002 with the Oakland Athletics
  • Ralph Macchio, winner of special recognition: Resident of Mount Sinai and culturally significant icon for his work in martial arts with Karate Kid and Cobra Kai
  • Tina Moon: One of the most successful field hockey coaches in Suffolk County history at Sachem High School and an American player at Centereach and UConn
  • Joe Pellicane: Deer Park resident and longtime college coach with over 540 wins; current female coach at Molloy College
  • AJ Preller: President of Baseball Operations and General Manager of the San Diego Padres at Walt Whitman High School
  • John and Allison Pfeffer: Longtime Bay Shore High School Head coaches of several sports, including lacrosse and gymnastics
  • Matt Senk: Longtime Stony Brook University head baseball coach with over 870 wins and a trip to the College World Series
  • Kia Wright: One of Long Island’s most impactful hoop players at Copiague High School and a member of the University of St. John’s Hall of Fame for outstanding college career.
  • Darrel Young: Former NFL running back with the Redskins, current director of player personnel with the Amityville High School Steelers
  • Steve Zimmer: Smithtown resident, veteran NFL referee, including many high-stakes games like the Super Bowl

Galati, a two-time All-American National Fastpitch Coaches Association who became Hofstra’s first honored team in 2012, remains Hofstra’s all-time leader in pitching appearances (183), starts in circle (159) , innings pitched (1,096.2), win (129), strikeouts (1,415), no hits (12) and is second all-time with a 1.30 ERA. She also holds the Colonial Athletic Association all-time career records for wins, innings pitched and strikeouts.
