Affordable senior fitness classes began 10 years ago at the LOVE Building in Grass Valley as part of a partnership between the City of Grass Valley, the Lions Club and Gold Country Senior Services.

The facility offered popular classes in line dancing, yoga, and tai chi, among others.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all classes and activities have been canceled since 2020.

Janeth Marroletti, Executive Director of Core Services at Gold Country. “We were able to offer senior courses at low cost by renting out the LOVE building on weekends as a venue for special private events. Not having this income has caused extreme financial problems to continue classes there due to the pandemic. After extensive review and discussions between City of Grass Valley officials and the Gold Country Board of Directors, a mutual decision was made to terminate our contract and return use of the facility to the town of Grass Valley”.

Plans for the future of the LOVE building are being discussed.

Another influencing factor confirmed by Board Chairman Keith Overbey is the purchase of a facility for a seniors center at 231 Colfax Avenue in Grass Valley. “Once completed,” he said, “the new senior center will offer new fitness classes, as well as other innovative activities to enrich the lives of seniors.”

“It is important to note that our partnership with the City of Grass Valley continues to grow,” added Marroletti, “as we work together to establish a senior center in Grass Valley that meaningfully meets the needs of residents. over 60 years old.

City Manager Tim Kiser said, “The Town of Grass Valley is grateful to have partnered with Gold Country Senior Services over the past decade. Their commitment to providing exceptional service to our seniors and our community continues to capture the attention of municipal leaders. We look forward to continuing to work together on future projects. »
