Seniors Center Now Accepting Reservations For Vacation Travel | Around the city
Join us on Thursday, December 9 at 9.45am as we travel by coach from Foxboro to West Springfield, MA to get into the holiday spirit and enjoy a day of fun. Our first stop is the Storrowton Tavern & Carriage House where we’ll have a choice of baked New England gratin or roast turkey for lunch. Next, we travel to Yankee Candle, America’s Favorite Candle Company, where we’ll learn how candles are made, shop the world’s largest candle store, and experience Christmas in their ‘Magical Land of Fantasy’ . When darkness sets in we will drive through Bright Nights in Forest Park, a renowned village of over 600,000 Christmas lights. The cost of this trip is $ 94 for Foxborough residents and $ 100 for non-residents. Foxborough residents can sign up with their payment starting July 13. Registration with payment for non-residents begins July 27.

Meditation is a state of deep peace that occurs when the mind is calm and silent. Join us for our meditation classes at the senior center on Tuesdays in July from noon to 1 p.m. Learn how to create peace of mind and go on a mini meditation vacation every day! Each class will focus on breathing, improving posture, and practicing different methods of meditation, including writing your own guided meditation. In these uncertain times, you deserve moments of calm personal reflection. Due to a special funding source, this program will be free for the month of July. If enough participants wish to continue in the future, there will possibly be a cost for this class. Please register in advance.
VANGO DISCOVERY CLUB
The VanGo Discovery Club will take place on Wednesdays in July from 10:15 a.m. This club will allow you to get away from your daily life, while exploring a new community. Participants will travel aboard the VanGo to a new area for independent, self-guided exploration of 3-4 hours each and return to Foxboro around 4:30 p.m. On July 14 we are leaving for Falmouth, on July 21 we will be visiting Newport and on July 28 we will be heading to Providence Place / Downtown Waterfront. The cost is $ 5 per person and you must register and pay in advance.
JACK CRAIG – SONGS OF HOPE AND INSPIRATION
Join us Wednesday, July 21 at 2 pm for Jack Craig’s show on “Songs of Hope and Inspiration”. Over time, hope and inspiration have been conveyed through the song. The songs in this program have lyrics with uplifting messages that inspire hope for all. Find gratitude by singing about smiles, sunny sides, happy days, dreams, world peace and hope for tomorrow! TECH 101 – THE BASICS OF THE IPHONE
Are you getting the most out of your iPhone? Join us on Monday July 12 at 2:15 p.m. or Monday July 26 at 2:15 p.m. for our Tech 101 – iPhone Basics course to learn some tips and tricks for this amazing phone device in your pocket. Register in advance.
WORLD KEBAB DAY
There is something special about a kebab – that combination of meat and veg on a skewer on a bamboo spear roasted on an open grill. World Kebab Day celebrates this delicious barbecue favorite. Join us on Wednesday July 14 at 5 p.m. and enjoy a good grilled kebab while socializing with friends. Participants will be able to choose between a chicken, a steak or a vegetarian kebab. The cost is $ 5 per person. Places are limited, please register in advance.
LOW VISION SUPPORT GROUP
The Low Vision Support Group will meet virtually on Thursday, July 15 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. This planned event will be held as a conference call, but if you are interested in participating, please check with Pam McGuire by calling 508-543-1234 for the latest details.
Do you like to play Scrabble or would you like to learn how to play? We have a Scrabble group that meets on Monday afternoons at 1 p.m. at the senior center. Challenge your mind, hang out with friends, and have a lot of fun. If you are interested in playing, call us to register.
On Wednesday, July 21, a hearing clinic will be offered from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. This program is free and will include hearing screening, earwax removal, hearing aid cleaning and service by appointment. Call ahead to schedule a 20 minute appointment.
Tuesdays, 8:30 am to 9:30 am, start your day with peaceful meditation and Tai Chi movement with instructor Elijah Swain. Elijah is a 9th degree black belt and owner of Tai Jing Academy. TABLE GARDEN CLUB
The Seniors Center’s Table Top Garden Club resumed meeting every Tuesday at 9.45 am Under the direction of Marsha Lewicke, this club explores gardening techniques through inner and socially distant discussions. Call us to register.
PILGRIM BELLE TRIP REGISTRATION
Join us for a trip to Plymouth, MA on Thursday, September 2nd. We will leave Foxborough from the St. Mary’s parking lot at 9:30 am and travel by coach to Plymouth to cruise Plymouth Harbor in style aboard the Pilgrim Belle, a Mississippi-style paddle steamer. We’ll enjoy a 75-minute narrated cruise through this historic town and seaport, followed by lunch at the Tavern on the Wharf restaurant. For lunch, you can choose between baked New England cod or chicken marsala. After lunch we will enjoy a wine tasting at Plymouth Bay Winery, then have some free time in Plymouth city center before returning home. The cost for this trip is $ 101 for Foxboro residents and $ 106 for non-residents. The price includes all tips. Call us to register.
The nutrition class meets at the senior center on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. Class members discuss good food, good nutrition, and good health, and share their ideas. Call us to register!
The next Veterans Club meeting will be on Monday July 19 at 2:30 p.m. The mission of the Veterans Club is to create a listening session around Veterans and their stories to ensure that this living story will never be forgotten. In addition, important veterans issues will be discussed under the direction of Foxborough Town Veteran Services Officer Ally Rodriguez. To comply with regulations, coffee and donuts will temporarily not be served. Registration is required to allow the installation of the furniture.
SENIOR DINNER – TAKE AND GO
For the month of July, we continue to host a weekly Grab and Go Senior Supper on Wednesday at 4:30 PM. Just come to the senior center and we will give you a packed lunch. In addition to our “Grab and Go” dinners, starting in June, we will also offer you the possibility of enjoying your senior dinner at the senior center with friends in the tent. Quantities are limited, so you must call us in advance to register. Due to limited seating, when registering please let us know if you will be joining us in the tent or if you will be taking your meal home. Suggested donation of $ 3 to HESSCO.
BLOOD PRESSURE CLINIC
At 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13, there will be a free blood pressure clinic at the senior center. Blood pressure checks are done by Foxborough Deputy Fire Department Chief and Public Health Nurse Tom Kenvin, and free clinics are held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m. Call us for an appointment.
You can get health insurance information and assistance through the Serve Everyone’s Health Information Needs (SHINE) program. A SHINE advisor is available on Tuesdays from 3 pm to 6 pm for a “virtual” appointment by phone or in Zoom appointment. This program provides free, confidential health insurance advice and assistance to Massachusetts residents who are or will be eligible for Medicare and their families. Call for an appointment.
