Taylor Cahill wins MMA debut

MONROEVILLE – Berlin Brothersvalley graduate Taylor Cahill scored a victory in her amateur mixed martial arts debut on Saturday.

PIAA medalist in Berlin and Division I wrestler in college, Cahill defeated Gabriel Tellez by unanimous decision at Brawl in the Burgh 6. Cahill won 30-27 on two of the judges’ cards and 29-28 on the other.

Another former Berlin student, David Krouse, lost to tapout thanks to a triangle choke on Justin Pippens’ third arm on his debut that night in Brawl in the Burgh 7.

Sunday morning Swat Fest

The team of Ged Corrigan, Jack Bowden, Barry Craig and Carl Mayer shot 5 points to win the top 3 of 4 using the Sunday Morning Swat Fest points at the Northwinds Golf Course on Sunday.

The second place at 4 points went to the team of Gary Honkus, John Keller, Gary Miller and Ed Morelli.

Third place was even claimed by Rick Schiffhauer, Mark Schiffhauer, Pat Connah and Steve Izing.

The medalist was George Gonzalez with a 75.

Indian Lake Golf League

Hilltop Office Supply pushed its position to the top of the Indian Lake Golf League to two points at the Northwinds Peninsula Club. Matt Maurizio led his team with 7 points.

Weighley Building moved from sixth to second after a big team effort led by sponsor Tim Weighley with 6.5 points. Mike Visinsky and Russ Hillegas added 6 points each.

Hughes Specialty Contracting fell to third place. George Ross and Mick Maddy paced Hughes with 5 points each.

Jeff Mosholder got a 37 for the lowest gross score of the week and shared a low net with three others at 35.

The Kicker winners were Bob Mayer, Joe Pipon, Bryan Adams and Mosholder.

Team Ranking: Hilltop Office 88 points, Weighley Building 86, Hughes Specialty 84.5, Howard Hanna Bardell Realty 83.5, The Alley Sports Bar 83, Colors, Inc. 83, Wheeler Bros. 81, Kline & Specter Law 79, Berlin Lumber 78.5, Hollern & Koontz Agency 76, Gibson-Thomas Engineering 74, Indian Lake Realty 73.

Low gross: Jeff Mosholder 37, Mike Visinsky 38, Bryan Ridilla 40, Rick Schiffhauer 40, Bob Mayer 41.

Low net: Jeff Mosholder, Benji Huzsek, Rick Schiffhauer and Mike Visinsky all with a 35.

Rotary 16, FOE 9

Rotary survived FOE 16-9 in a Somerset Little League contest on Sunday.

The Wheels were powered by Drew Miller’s Hot Bat, who had five doubles in as many appearances on set that day. Garrett Reese slammed a triple and added another hit while Carter Thompson had a multi-hit game.

Other successes for the wheels have come from Micah Reese, Coy Beener and Zeb Landis.

Rotary starter Thompson took the win and saw relief from Max Terry and Miller. The trio withdrew five Eagles.

Trevor Shaffer doubled for FOE. Ryder Shumaker, Griffin Halverson and Brody Dull each contributed a hit.

They were led onto the mound by starter Shaffer and relievers Max Shumaker and Halverson. They came together to seat nine rotary hitters.

Rotary 8, Kiwanis 3

Rotary beat Kiwanis 8-3 in Somerset Little League action on Thursday.

The Wheels were led offensively by Garrett Reese who went 4-for-4 including a triple, two doubles and a single. Carter Thompson had two hits while Drew Miller, Max Terry and Brooks Berkey also chose.

Reese took the victory over the mound with relief from Josh Willmotte. They totaled nine strikeouts.

Kiwanis was limited to three hits with doubles from Cole Lucas and Sammy Sheeler and a single from Kellen Hagans.

Mound duties for the Kiwanis were shared by starter Lucas and reliever Hagans. The pair combined for 11 strikeouts.
